Adult cystic acne is a severe form of acne vulgaris called nodulocystic acne. When you have this type of acne, the skin develops lesions with pus in them. The lesions can be hurtful and if the lesions are popped there can be cystic acne scars and damage to the skin. The skin can also be damaged if the cystic acne is not properly treated.
There are many causes of cystic acne. A few of the causes are:
- Excess of dead skin
- Overactive oily glands
- Excessive number of acne causing bacteria
- High Stress
- Illnesses such as cancer
- Depression
- Hormonal changes
Cystic acne can also run in the family as a hereditary problem. It can affect anyone in the family but is more common in teenagers and men in their 20’s, however no one in my family had this problem. Having these lesions and bumps on my face did leave me feeling withdrawn from my friends and pursuing women so I knew that I had to find a cystic acne treatment for this embarrassing problem.
